World Water Day 2013 - CARE Kenya's Safe Water Systems makes great strides



Every year, on 22nd March, the world celebrates World Water Day.  This year, Proctor and Gamble, CARE?s partner on the Safe Water Systems(SWS) project, visited Kotoo Primary School in Siaya County to raise awareness about the importance of cleaning water, and where CARE Kenya was lauded for its work in providing over 3.5 million sachets of water purifier for clean, safe drinking water to children in 20 schools, as well as to 18,000 families. Safe Water Systems is a partnership between CARE and Proctor and Gamble spanning over 6 years, and is a relatively inexpensive method of providing safe water to communities , involving aspects of treatment, safe storage and behavior change.


Here are some key lessons learnt from our work in SWS:





On World Water Day 2012, CARE and Proctor and Gamble announced the plan to provide more than 100 Million Litres of clean drinking water to communities in Kenya and Ethiopia. Former U.S Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, joined CARE and P&G in celebrating the milestone of the 100th school in Kenya provided with clean drinking water through this innovative partnership.
