Her Excellency Mrs. Rachel Ruto addresses participants
On 26th March 2015, CARE Kenya and the Women in the Red campaign (part of the Women and Girls Lead Global initiative) invited members of government, civil society, donors, partners and beneficiaries for a one-day conference in Kisumu, Kenya to discuss ways of Building Bridges Between Women's Leadership and Financial Inclusion in Kenya.
This event was moderated by well-known Kenyan personality, Julie Gichuru, and the chief guest was Her Excellency Mrs. Rachel Ruto, wife of the Vice-President of the Republic of Kenya, and founder of the Joyful Women Organization, that advocates for table banking similar to the CARE model.

Also present were Deputy Governor of Kisumu Honorable Ruth Odinga, Senator Joy Gwendo and Honorable Catherine Nyamato, amongst other eminent personalities. CARE senior staff, including the Country Director, Assistant Country Director, and Financial Inclusion Sector Manager, joined the organization's financial inclusion project teams in showcasing the impact of CARE on transforming lives and fighting poverty, empowering women in the process.
The conference brought together people from different backgrounds to discuss how to take the agenda of womens' economic empowerment forward. Five different panels focussed on the roles of media, financial education and financial inclusion on enhancing women's leadership in communities.

Representative beneficiaries from Embu, Nairobi, Marsabit , Kisumu and Homa Bay were also present, and shared their stories about how CARE's savings and loans projects have empowered them to transform their own communities.
This was the first of many discussions to come as CARE Kenya focusses on women and girls' empowerment as a catalyst to fight poverty.
